Our
History
Herfsland was built by the municipality of Kempton Park to care for frail and semi-frail seniors. The management of the Home was referred to the Dutch Reformed Church in 1985. In 1996 Herfsland built 30 Life Right Units on its premises and added another 13 in 2003. In 2014, Tutela (the service arm of the Dutch Reformed Church) approached Herfsland to manage the Huis Senior in Birchleigh which provides independent accommodation for active older persons.
Herfsland is only one of two old age homes in Kempton Park that is registered with the Department of Social Development.

“We would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Herfsland following the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Dawn Du Plessis this past Friday, 22nd May.
Our mother was a nursing home resident at Herfsland for 20 years, and throughout that time she was cared for with dignity, kindness, and genuine compassion. As her family, we are deeply thankful for the exceptional and loving care she received over many years.
Please kindly convey our special thanks to all the Herfsland nursing staff and team, whose dedication, patience, and attentiveness made a profound difference in Ma Dawn’s quality of life. Your willingness to assist her in every aspect of her care did not go unnoticed, and it brought great comfort to us knowing she was in such capable and caring hands.
Thank you for being more than caregivers; but being a source of support, stability, and compassion over such a long and meaningful season of Ma Dawn’s life. We truly appreciate everything you have done for her and for our family. With deepest gratitude and kind regards,”
